Kamloops police are crediting the quick response of two police officers and a boater, which led to a woman being safely pulled from the water Sunday night.
Around 8:30 p.m., on April 27, RCMP officers were called to an area near Riverside Park East, where a woman who appeared in emotional distress was in the water under the train bridge.
A police spokesperson says that when police arrived, they called out to the woman, but she did not respond and instead, began to float downstream. “Fortunately, officers were able to quickly flag down a civilian in a jet boat, who took them out to where the woman was floating,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn.
The officers pulled the woman out of the river and into the boat. She was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment and care.
One of the officers received minor injuries during the rescue.
Mounties thank the civilian who was able to assist and help prevent the situation from becoming tragic.
