The Kamloops Blazers have signed 2010-born defenseman Mateo Ferreira to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
Ferreira was selected by the Blazers in the 1st round, 11th overall in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft.
Ferreira is from Winnipeg, MB and played the 2024-25 season with the Winnipeg Bruins U15 AAA Gold team.
The 5’8” and 155lb left shot defender had 21 goals, 49 assists and 70 points in 32 games.
“We would like to welcome Mateo and his family to the Kamloops Blazers organization,” said GM/Head Coach, Shaun Clouston. “We’ve had the ability to track and watch Mateo a lot over the last few seasons.”
“We look forward to watching Mateo’s game continue to grow and develop and are excited for the day he is a full-time player with the Kamloops Blazers,” added Clouston.

Ferreira attended the Spring Development Camp in Kamloops this past weekend.
He becomes the first player from the 2010-born draft class to sign with the hockey club.
He scored the winning goal in the final scrimmage of the day Sunday at Brock Arena.
“Obviously it was awesome. It nice to meet everyone (in Kamloops). I’m looking forward to the future as a Blazer,” said Ferreira before leaving on Sunday back to Winnipeg.
The Blazers are expected to announce a handful of signings this week in the wake of the three day spring Development Camp.
The Camp itself included 28 players from various communities in Western Canada, as well as from California.
The 15 and 16 year old players were all selected by the Blazers over the past two Bantam Drafts.
