Person of interest in a series of dumpster fires which have been lit in downtown Kamloops over the course of the past month/via Kamloops RCMP
Kamloops Mounties may be narrowing in on the person or people who may be responsible for a recent string of dumpster fires which have been taking place in downtown Kamloops the last few weeks.
RCMP have released a photo of a person they say they’d like to speak with in connection with the fires.
The photo was taken on Tuesday, June 3rd shortly before 2:30am, not long after a fire was reported in a dumpster in the 100 block of Victoria Street West.
Locations along that stretch which would have dumpsters include Kamloops City Hall and the Mustard Seed’s operations.
The photograph of the suspect does not provide a lot of detail into the person’s face, but the Mounties are hoping the clothes and the person’s overall appearance might be enough to recognize and report who the person is.

Fire Danger Rating in the Kamloops area. Red indicating area of Extreme Fire Danger, which now includes most of Kamloops-proper. Orange indicates High Danger Rating, while Yellow is Moderate/via BC Wildfire Service.
Kamloops RCMP say there have been at least half-a-dozen fires in downtown dumpsters set over the course of the last month that Kamloops Fire Rescue has been forced to put out.
It’s not clear if they are all related, or what method is being used — such as an accelerant — to get the fires going.
While they haven’t resulted in any significant damage other than to the dumpsters themselves, there is concern the fires could spread to other buildings or landscaping in the area, particularly as temperatures start to heat up.
The BC Wildfire Service now lists most parts of Kamloops as being in its Extreme Fire Danger range, with the eastern portions of the city now included in that assessment after portions of western Kamloops were bumped up to Extreme last week.
