The City of Kamloops — in a bid to avoid significant damage — has decided to shut down almost all of its municipal-run sports fields through Monday.
With more rain forecast in the coming days, it remains unclear as to whether or not the shutdown is going to be extended.
“Due to the significant amount of rain accumulated over the weekend and today, all City fields will be closed tonight [Monday], except for Hillside Stadium,” the City of Kamloops put out on a social media post during the noon hour.
“The current conditions have made the fields unsafe for play, and this measure is necessary to prevent any damage,” added the City.
“Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.”
The exception made for Hillside Stadium is due to the artificial turf, which has better drainage and isn’t nearly as vulnerable to damage brought on by wet conditions.
