As folks in the Shuswap dealt with a fire immediately south of Chase throughout much of the day, another fire in the region would break out on Monday, this one with a very familiar feeling for residents in the Fraser Canyon.
The BC Wildfire Service is responding to a fire burning on the west side of the Fraser River in Lytton.
The fire — listed at just over 2 hectares as of 11pm on Monday by the BC Wildfire Service — is believed to have taken hold around 8:30pm near the Lytton Ferry crossing, which is an area to the northwest of the Village of Lytton itself.
No word yet on what may have sparked that fire.
The Lytton First Nation as well as a local first-response volunteer team are said to be on scene attempting to keep the fire from spreading into less accessible areas.
The Thompson Nicola Regional District, which administers the area to the west of the Fraser River at Lytton, has not any evacuation orders or alerts as of 11:30pm on Monday.
It comes on the 4th anniversary of the June 30th fire in 2021 which rolled through the Village of Lytton, killing two people and leaving over 90% of the community completely destroyed.
Further updates from the BC Wildfire Service and other local officials are expected on Tuesday.
At this point, it doesn’t appear that any homes are being threatened by the new blaze outside of Lytton.
