Kamloops hockey product and former Blazer Logan Stankoven has $48 million reasons to smile today.
The 22 year-old has signed an eight-year contract extension with the Carolina Hurricanes worth six million $USD per season.
Stankoven had expressed interest in signing a long term extension in an interview with Radio NL’s Jon Keen two weeks ago.
“Personally I’d love to. It seems they want to sign younger guys to long term deals. That would be a dream come true. We’ll wait and see,” Stankoven told Radio NL a couple of weeks ago after returning from an end-of-season vacation.
The former Blazers captain played parts of four seasons from his 16 year-old rookie campaign in 2019 to his 19 year-old season in 2023 in his home town, culminating with the Blazers hosting the Memorial Cup.
The former 2nd round pick of the Dallas Stars was traded to the Hurricanes at the NHL trade deadline in the Mikko Rantanen deal.
He’s played into the NHL Conference Finals the past two seasons with the Dallas Stars last season and the Hurricanes this season, becoming the only player in League history to make it that deep into the playoffs with two different teams while still a rookie.
He finished 7th in NHL rookie of the year voting after putting up 14 goals and 24 assists for 38 points in 78 games.
Stankoven went on to score five goals and add three assists in 15 playoff games.
