Kamloops Mounties are ramping up enforcement efforts this summer with a series of high-profile arrests and firearm seizures aimed at curbing violence and targeting repeat offenders across the city.
In just the first month of summer, eight individuals have been arrested, four firearms seized, and 37 criminal charges approved as part of a focused effort led by the Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU). The initiative zeroes in on well-known and prolific offenders involved in weapons offences, drug-related crimes, and violent behaviour.
One of the most serious incidents unfolded on July 18, when officers stopped a motorcyclist during an ongoing investigation. The suspect, later identified as Richard Graham, was arrested by CRU officers after allegedly kicking a police officer. A firearm was recovered at the scene. Graham remains in custody and is facing 10 charges, including assaulting a police officer and possession of prohibited firearms.
“The Kamloops RCMP Detachment continues to prioritize combating serious offenders by targeting individuals involved in weapons offences and violence,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP. “The dedication of CRU supporting frontline policing reflects our ongoing efforts to combat serious offences and work toward enhancing public trust and safety.”
Between July 10 and 19, seven additional arrests were made, spanning multiple investigations involving stolen vehicles, warrant executions, drug offences, and intimate partner violence.
The individuals arrested and their associated charges include:
-
Michael Luttman: Facing six charges, including three firearms-related offences. He remains in custody.
-
Nicholas Dekelver: Charged with three offences, including driving while prohibited. He is currently detained.
-
Spencer Adams: Facing five charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He remains in custody.
-
Blake Bernhard: Charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault by choking. He is detained by the court.
-
Cameron Jewett: Charged with five firearm-related offences.
-
Joshua Ippolito: Facing multiple charges across three separate investigations, including driving while prohibited and theft under $5,000.
An eighth investigation remains ongoing after a firearm was seized during an arrest. Police say charges are anticipated.
The Kamloops RCMP are encouraging the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious or criminal activity by calling 250-828-3000.
“This is just one example of how targeted enforcement can help reduce community violence and bring accountability to repeat offenders,” added Supt. Pelley.
