The Othello Tunnels in Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park have reopened to the public, but the search continues for a 19-year-old man who fell into the Coquihalla River near the tunnels on Saturday, July 26.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies — including RCMP, Search and Rescue, fire services, and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team — have been conducting extensive search and recovery efforts since the incident. Despite underwater searches and drone-assisted scans, the man has yet to be found.
Hope RCMP Staff Sgt. Mike Sargent confirmed that the pools of water where the man was last seen have been thoroughly searched. Search operations are set to resume on Saturday, with the possibility that certain sections of the park may remain temporarily restricted for safety.
The man fell into the swift river currents near the tunnels on the evening of July 26. During the initial search, responders also rescued a bystander who became stranded while assisting in the search.
BC Parks initially closed the Othello Tunnels as a safety precaution, but the site has now reopened to visitors. Police have not released the identity of the missing man, and the investigation remains active.
