Kelly Funk - Sun Peaks Hiking
The alpine meadows at Sun Peaks are bursting with color this summer, as wildflowers like arctic lupine, mountain aster, paintbrush, tiger lily, and red columbine reach their peak bloom. Visitors can easily explore this vibrant natural display via the Sunburst Express chairlift and the extensive hiking trails.
Just in time for the BC Day long weekend, Sun Peaks is hosting the Mountain Lifestyle Wellness Weekend from August 1 to 3, presented in partnership with Helly Hansen. The event offers wellness activities inspired by the mountain environment, including:
-
Scavenge the Summit: A family-friendly scavenger hunt running Friday through Sunday. Participants visit up to 30 checkpoints around the trail network, with each checkpoint entered into a prize draw featuring gear from Helly Hansen and Sun Peaks Spa.
-
Intro to Trail Running: A beginner-friendly session led by local certified coach Craig on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. ($10 registration).
-
Morning Flow Yoga: A sunrise yoga class at mid-mountain on Sunday at 8 a.m., taught by local instructor Meghan ($50 registration). Both classes include premium swag packs valued at approximately $100.
“Mountain Lifestyle Wellness Weekend is designed to celebrate the unique beauty of our alpine wildflowers and give guests new ways to engage with our trails,” says Christina Antoniak, Director of Communications for Sun Peaks Resort.
The BC Day weekend also features a lively lineup of family-friendly events in the village, including the First Fridays Street Party Series with live music from The Free Label, a terrace party at Sun Peaks Grand, a Pondera Spit Roast at Masa’s Bar + Grill, an outdoor family movie night, bounce house parties, Sunday brunch, and the weekly Farmers’ Market.
Looking ahead, Sun Peaks will host the much-anticipated Adventure Race on August 9, organized by Adventure Immersion Labs. This multi-discipline race combines trekking, paddling, and mountain biking, with participants navigating by map and compass — no GPS allowed. Racers can choose either a 4-hour/23 km or an 8-hour/50 km course, competing solo or in teams of two.
Sun Peaks Resort is renowned for its year-round mountain experiences, from Canada’s second-largest ski area in winter to golf, biking, hiking, and vibrant summer events.
