Smoke emanating from burned out areas of the Cantilever Bar wildfire in the Lytton area/via Tricia Thorpe
The Cantilever Bar wildfire burning just south of Lytton is now being held, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
The 14-square-kilometre blaze, located approximately 10 kilometres south of the village on the west side of the Fraser River, is no longer expected to grow beyond established containment lines.
The fire was discovered July 28 and quickly spread, prompting an evacuation order for two Lytton First Nation reserves, along with evacuation alerts for nearby areas including the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
As of 9:00 a.m. on August 6, the evacuation alert issued for Spencer Road South in TNRD’s Electoral Area “I” (Blue Sky Country) has been rescinded to All Clear. This notice affects approximately five properties:
-
3800 Spencer Rd S
-
3960 Spencer Rd S
-
4265 Spencer Rd S
-
4275 Spencer Rd S
-
4279 Spencer Rd S
Residents are advised that should conditions change, evacuation alerts or orders may be reinstated.
Elsewhere in the province, an evacuation alert for 118 properties near Peachland has also been lifted, with the Drought Hill wildfire now under control.
However, the BC Wildfire Service warns that warmer and drier weather is expected to return by the end of the week, which could increase wildfire risk in parts of British Columbia.
