Another major section of roadway in Kamloops is coming under the jack hammer this month.
The City of Kamloops has confirmed that its going to be completing upgrades to a section of paving work it says is necessary along Columbia Street across from Royal Inland Hospital starting from next Monday, August 18th.
The City says the work from 1st to 3rd Avenue needs to be done at this point before a much larger infrastructure project from 3rd to McGill along Columbia Street takes place in 2027.
The City is warning that there will be disruptions along the stretch heading too and from downtown until early September, as they won’t be able to do their work at night due to the proximity to the hospital.
City of Kamloops officials say they will try to confine the work to non-peak hours — 9am to 3pm.
While the project is expected to be complete by early September, any delays putting the work into and beyond the Labour Day long weekend will see the city shift its work to weekends-only once kids are back to school.
The City of Kamloops is warning commuters to expect delays as the milling and paving work takes place, reminding people to use the zipper merge procedure to get through the bottleneck.
It comes as construction is underway along the Overlanders Bridge leading too and from north Kamloops, as well as work along Tranquille on the north shore, on top of the start of sewar line construction along 4th avenue downtown. As of now, Victoria Street is also closed to through traffic at 4th Avenue due to that construction work, adding another layer of disruption for downtown drivers.
