A man was taken into custody Saturday afternoon following a disturbance in downtown Kamloops during the city’s popular Hot Nite in the City event.
According to Kamloops RCMP, officers responded to a report of a fight just before 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, in the 300-block of Victoria Street, while the well-attended annual car show which draws large crowds to the downtown core was going on.
During the response, a man allegedly interfered with the police investigation and pushed one of the officers. He was subsequently arrested. Police say minor injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
“Due to the proactive patrols associated with the operational plan to respond to RibFest issues, police were able to respond quickly and maintain public safety,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley.
Additional frontline officers were deployed throughout the weekend as part of the city’s plan to maintain order during the busy summer festival season.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000, citing file number 2025-25978.
