A fire at a supportive housing complex in Kamloops was quickly brought under control this morning, thanks to the building’s sprinkler system.
Kamloops Fire Rescue was called to Mission Flats Manor, located in the 800 block of Mission Flats Road, just after 9:00 a.m. following reports of a structure fire.
“When crews arrived, the fire was already fully extinguished,” said a fire official. “It was a room and contents fire, and the sprinkler system did exactly what it was supposed to do.”
Three fire trucks responded to the call, which is standard protocol for any reported structure fire. Officials say that’s because it’s not always immediately clear whether fire suppression systems are in place or functioning.
“If there were no sprinklers, this could have been a much more serious event,” the official added.
One staff member was treated for minor smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported. Firefighters remained on scene briefly to assist with ventilation and cleanup before clearing out.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but no major damage has been reported.
