Residents of Monte Creek and surrounding communities are invited to celebrate the long-awaited grand opening of the Monte Creek Firehall next month, marking a major milestone in local fire protection services.
The grand opening event is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the new firehall, located at 1257 Hook Road. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 11:15 a.m., followed by an open house, community barbecue, and fire safety activities for the whole family.
The new firehall officially became operational this summer, and members of the Monte Creek Fire Department are now responding to calls from their brand-new facility.
Visitors will be able to tour the firehall, see fire trucks up close, and meet the local firefighters who will serve approximately 356 properties in Monte Creek, Del Oro, the Keekwillie area, parts of Shuswap Road, and eastern Barnhartvale.
The event will also feature the TNRD FireSmart booth, fun giveaways, and a special appearance by Ember the FireSmart Fox—a favourite among children at fire safety events.

The firehall’s completion comes after years of planning and community support. Construction began in October 2024, following a successful referendum that created the Monte Creek Fire Protection Service Area in 2023. Until now, local volunteer firefighters had been working in coordination with the Pritchard Fire Department.
TNRD Director Doug Haughton, who represents the Monte Creek area has noted that the firehall’s development has roots going back to the leadership of former TNRD directors, including the late Ken Gillis, and also acknowledged the Herman family, who donated the land for the project following a tragic fire that claimed the life of Ed Herman.
The $2.25 million project includes the firehall building, a new fire truck, a water tender, and updated personal protective equipment for firefighters. Approximately $1 million of the funding came from a provincial grant, with the remaining $1.25 million financed by the TNRD over 20 years.
The TNRD says the grand opening is not just a celebration of infrastructure, but also of community commitment and resilience.
