While the Mounties aren’t able to provide a lot of details at this point, they are investigating the discovery of a dead body in a burned-out vehicle which does appear to have the hallmarks of a gang-related killing.
The Southeast Major Crimes Unit has confirmed the discovery of the body in the burned-out remains of a stolen car at some point Saturday along the road leading to the slot canyons northwest of Kamloops and all the way into Bonaparte Provincial Park.
RCMP have not indicated where along the Tranquille-Criss Creek Road stretch the stolen, black 2019 VW Golf was discovered.

Police do say they are treating the discovery as suspicious, with the Southeast Major Crimes Unit taking control of the investigation from Tk’emlups RCMP.
While they have confirmed the vehicle was discovered sometime Saturday, a time window for information would suggest the burned-out vehicle was discovered sometime Saturday morning.
“MCU investigators are looking for public assistance in determining the circumstances that led to the vehicle fire and death,” said S/Sgt Jason Smart of the BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit. “If you have any information regarding the black, 2019 Volkswagen Golf, dashcam footage or video surveillance in the area of Tranquille-Criss Creek Road between 3 p.m. on August 22 and 7 a.m. on August 23, 2025, please contact the RCMP.”
The BC Wildfire Service has not reported any wildfires in the areas where the Tranquille-Criss Creek Road traverses, suggesting the fire which torched the vehicle was likely confined to the car itself.
The Southeast District Major Crime Unit has a toll-free hotline for people to call with any information: 1-877-987-8477.
This is the fourth untimely death that RCMP based in Kamloops have been involved with this weekend.
The other deaths — two fatal motorcycle crashes and a drowning in Tobiano on Saturday — are all believed to be accidental.
