The trails are primed, the tires are pumped, and the countdown is on for Peaks Pedal Fest 2025, returning to Sun Peaks Resort from August 29 to 31. This annual Labour Day weekend celebration marks the unofficial end of summer by bringing together mountain bikers of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds for three full days of high-energy events, family fun, and community stoke.
Now in its 11th year, Peaks Pedal Fest has grown alongside Sun Peaks’ burgeoning mountain bike scene. “We’ve invested heavily in our biking infrastructure over the last decade,” said Christina Antoniak, resort spokesperson. “This event was always meant to celebrate not just the sport, but the vibrant community it’s helped build here. It’s our way of saying thank you to riders, locals, and visitors alike.”
Weekend Highlights
Junior DH Champions Returns—Bigger and Better
One of the most anticipated events this year is the Junior DH Champions, a downhill race for riders aged 8 to 16. Launched just last year, the event saw such strong demand that organizers have doubled capacity from 50 to 100 riders.
“This is all about getting kids into racing in a fun, low-pressure environment,” Antoniak explained. “They get the full race experience — their parents or coaches ride alongside them and it is complete with an awards ceremony. It’s their intro to what competitive biking can look like.”
Toyota Pacific Downhill Thrill
Back for a second year is the Toyota Pacific Downhill Thrill, a unique partnership that offers free shuttle access to Mount Morrissey’s community trail network, allowing riders to enjoy downhill laps without the uphill grind. “We’re making the experience more accessible and giving riders a chance to explore more terrain,” Antoniak said.
New Adaptive Biking Demo Day
This year also features a significant step toward inclusivity with the Adaptive Mountain Bike Demo Day, hosted in collaboration with Kootenay Adaptive Sport Association and Adaptive Sports Sun Peaks. Visitors can test adaptive bikes, ask questions, and learn how the sport is evolving to accommodate a wider range of abilities.

While Peaks Pedal Fest marks the end of summer’s high season, the bike park remains open daily through the end of September, with adjusted hours.
Antoniak noted the broader growth of biking in the Kamloops region: “We’re seeing more families, more kids, more diversity in who’s riding and how. That’s what makes this festival special—it’s not just for seasoned pros. It’s for everyone.”
