Shoppers in Kamloops are facing liquor store disruptions as a result of ongoing strike action by the BC General Employees Union, which is affecting BCLIQUOR locations across the province.
The BCLIQUOR store at Columbia Place (600-1210 Summit Dr) is among the locations temporarily closed due to the labour dispute, according to a notice issued by the BC Liquor Distribution Branch. The closure affects both retail and hospitality customers.
The strike has also led to province-wide product quantity limits at BCLIQUOR stores that remain open. Customers — including those in Kamloops — will be restricted to purchasing a maximum of three units per product per day, excluding beer and Bordeaux wines.
The measure is aimed at managing limited inventory and ensuring fair access to products while LDB distribution centres remain affected by the job action. “This was not a decision we made lightly,” the LDB said in its statement. “The implementation of modest quantity limits is intended to prolong the availability of liquor products… while the LDB’s distribution centres continue to be impacted by strike action.”
There is no timeline yet for when operations at affected stores will resume or when the quantity limits will be lifted. The LDB says it will provide updates as more information becomes available.
In the meantime, Kamloops residents are encouraged to check availability at other nearby BCLIQUOR locations or online.
