he Kamloops Blazers continue to make waves early in the 2025-26 WHL season as two of their standout players have earned prestigious weekly honors from the Western Hockey League.
J.P. Hurlbert Named Tempo WHL Player of the Week
Blazers forward J.P. Hurlbert has been named the Tempo WHL Player of the Week following a dominant performance in back-to-back wins against the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Sandman Centre. The 17-year-old Texan forward racked up six points (3 goals, 3 assists) and a plus-4 rating over two games, helping Kamloops remain undefeated with a 3-0 record.
On Friday night, Hurlbert sparked the comeback with a goal early in the first period, overcoming an early 2-0 deficit. He later assisted on Nathan Behm’s game-winning goal with just over three minutes left, earning him second star honors. Hurlbert followed up with an even stronger showing Saturday, scoring twice and adding two assists—including a shorthanded goal—during a commanding 6-0 victory.
Already off to a blazing start this season, Hurlbert leads the WHL in goals (6) and total points (9) through three games. The first-round pick of the 2023 WHL U.S. Priority Draft continues to prove why he’s one of the league’s top NHL prospects eligible for the 2026 draft.

Logan Edmonstone Earns Mary Brown’s Chicken WHL Goaltender of the Week
Not to be outdone, 17-year-old netminder Logan Edmonstone earned the Mary Brown’s Chicken WHL Goaltender of the Week honor after posting a 38-save shutout in the Blazers’ dominant 6-0 win over Seattle on Saturday.
Facing heavy pressure late in the game, Edmonstone stood tall with 16 third-period saves to secure the first shutout of his WHL career. Through two weeks, he boasts a .944 save percentage, ranking fourth in the league, and has posted two wins, tied for second among WHL goaltenders.
Originally drafted by Kamloops in the eighth round of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft, Edmonstone is poised for a breakout season as the Blazers hold the top spot in the B.C. Division with their perfect start.
