A Kamloops woman is in custody after a stolen vehicle incident ended in a crash Thursday afternoon, prompting a police search and public appeal for witnesses.
The events began around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, when members of the Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit spotted a Ford F-350 truck believed to be stolen. Officers ran the plate and confirmed the vehicle was not registered to any known owner.
Police identified the driver and attempted to stop the truck using a spike belt on Highway 5 in a controlled effort to bring the situation to a safe end. However, the vehicle continued to be driven dangerously despite the intervention.
“For public safety reasons, a decision was made not to pursue the vehicle further,” said Sgt. Jason Pole, supervisor of the Crime Reduction Unit.
The situation came to a head when the stolen truck collided with another vehicle near the intersection of Highway 5 and Halston Avenue, also striking a power pole before coming to a stop.
Both the driver and a female passenger fled on foot from the crash site. A short time later, police arrested the woman nearby. No injuries were reported, and the vehicle has since been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police are now asking for the public’s assistance. “Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have security or dash camera footage from the area, is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP and reference file number 2025-32931,” Sgt. Pole said.
The investigation remains active. Kamloops RCMP can be reached at 250-828-3000.
