A downtown Kamloops school was briefly placed on hold and secure Thursday afternoon after a woman experiencing a mental health crisis came onto school property.
Kamloops RCMP say they were called around 12:40 p.m. to the 700-block of Dominion Street after a woman reportedly set fire to her residence and then went to a nearby school. “Upon police arrival at the school, the woman fled to a nearby residence and was located by police and apprehended,” said Corporal Dana Napier, RCMP spokesperson. “The school proactively implemented a hold and secure in an effort to maintain the safety of the students.”
The hold and secure was lifted shortly after the woman was safely taken into custody. Kamloops Fire Rescue attended the scene to deal with the fire at the residence.
RCMP are working with School District 73 and school staff as part of the ongoing investigation.
