Kamloops RCMP say two people are facing charges after stealing a police bait vehicle last week.
On Thursday, November 6, a bait vehicle equipped with tracking and surveillance technology was stolen in Kamloops. Officers from the Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, with support from frontline officers and Police Dog Services, quickly tracked the vehicle and arrested both occupants shortly afterward.
“This is a perfect example of technology and proactive policing working hand in hand,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment. “Bait vehicles are an effective tool to target property crime offenders and hold them accountable.”
The stolen vehicle was recovered, and on November 7, Carrie-Lyn LePage and Timothy Molner were charged with theft of a motor vehicle and breaching court orders. Both remain in custody pending bail hearings.
Police are urging anyone with information about property crimes in the Kamloops area to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
