Titan's QB Cole Rigler hands off to South Kam Back Sam Brisebois in a semi-final of the 2-A Provincial Football Championships at BC Place/via Johnson Mai
In a rematch of last year’s Wild Card showdown, it would be North Vancouver’s Argyle prevailing over the weekend, dashing the hopes of the South Kam Titans in their 2-A Provincial Football semi-finals 29-22.
Hailed as a showdown between two high powered offenses, the affair would be mostly defense in the first half, with both teams getting key stops on early 4th down gambles.
Eventually, the Titans would get on the board, with Lloyd Heggen diving head-first into the end zone on a 13 yard scoring play.
The two teams would go into the dressing rooms knotted up at 7-7, with South Kam coming up just short at the end of an 80-yard drive in the last three minutes of the half.
QB Cole Rigler’s last second pass just clipping the finger tips of Derian Dyck to keep the Titans from the mid-game lead.
South Kam would get that back early in the 3rd, however, with Lloyd Heggen using a screen play to scamper 45 yards for his 2nd touchdown of the game.
Argyle would respond on the next drive to knot things back up at 14-14, and then take the lead after a bold call by South Kam.
Facing 4th and 1 on their own 33, the Titans would elect to go for it.
That didn’t work out, leading to a turnover-on-downs which allowed Argyle to punch in a touchdown for the 21-14 lead.
South Kam would press through the 4th, but come up short in an eventual 29-22 loss.
While the Titans would return to Kamloops disappointed, it does represent the program’s first semi-final appearance since 2011, after South Kam upset 2nd ranked John Barsby out of Nanaimo in the quarter-finals.
It’s the first time South Kam has made it into BC Place for the semi-finals since 2011.
