The Kamloops-Thompson Board of Education has selected longtime education finance leader Kim Morris as its next Secretary-Treasurer, following a province-wide search. She will begin her new role with School District 73 on March 1, 2026.
Board Chair Heather Grieve said the district is “thrilled” to welcome Morris to the senior leadership team. “With her extensive executive and financial leadership experience in school districts across BC, we know she will provide strong financial leadership and operational oversight to support our district’s vision and strategic goals,” Grieve said.
Morris brings more than 15 years of experience as a Secretary-Treasurer in B.C. school districts. She joins SD73 from the Peace River South School District in Dawson Creek, and previously held leadership positions in Victoria, New Westminster, Nelson, Trail, and Prince Rupert.
Morris said she is eager to get started. “Making a positive impact on student success is the most important work we do,” she said. “I hope to contribute fully through my experiences in the province while learning alongside the Board of Education, First Nations, staff, partners, and community to fulfil the goals of the District Strategic Plan with transparency, sustainability, and commitment.”
Throughout her career, Morris has overseen complex budget development, long-range facilities planning, capital projects, asset management, and multi-year technology planning. Colleagues describe her leadership style as grounded in credibility, confidence, and compassion.
Her appointment comes as SD73 continues a major leadership transition. The Board recently announced Mike St. John as the district’s new Superintendent of Schools. He begins in February 2026, with Morris following one month later.
St. John said Morris’s experience will be a significant asset. “Her values and beliefs clearly align with our district’s commitment to supporting and developing staff to best serve our students and communities,” he said. “Kim’s broad and diverse experiences … will be invaluable as we collectively navigate our path forward.”
