The Kamloops Outdoor Skating Association is inviting the community to help build a new outdoor skating rink at Lac Le Jeune this Saturday, December 13. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 10 a.m., meeting just adjacent to the Lac Le Jeune Resort, with access via the small bridge.
Nancy Bepple, speaking on behalf of the association, explained that this will be the second year the rink is being built at Lac Le Jeune. “Last year we moved our rink-making from Inks Lake up to Lac Le Jeune,” Bepple said. “The temperatures at Inks Lake were just too unpredictable, so we needed a higher elevation to get reliable ice.”
The work party will involve shoveling and preparing the ice, and volunteers are reminded to bring their own shovels and snacks. Bepple noted that while the rink may not be fully ready for skating immediately, past volunteers have been eager to test it out. “I brought my own skates last year, and everyone who was there did the same. Even before the ice was finished, kids were out there skating—it was really sweet.”
Anyone interested in joining the effort is encouraged to show up ready to lend a hand and bring their skates for some early skating fun once the rink is underway.
