Kamloops RCMP are investigating a homicide following the sudden death of a man in the city’s West End neighbourhood.
Police say officers responded to a residence on Dalgleish Drive on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, after receiving a request for a wellness check. When officers arrived, they found a deceased man inside the home. He has been identified as Muhammad “Ash” Zafar.
The area remains secured as investigators continue to examine the scene. Based on evidence gathered so far, police have determined the death is being treated as a homicide. Investigators say the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
The Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken over the investigation and is working to establish a timeline of Zafar’s movements and interactions in the days leading up to his death.
“We are asking anyone who had recent contact with Mr. Zafar, or who may have information about his social network, activities, or associates, to reach out to investigators,” said Staff Sgt. Kevin McIntyre of the Kamloops RCMP. “Even small details can assist us in understanding the events leading up to this incident.”
Police are specifically looking to speak with anyone who saw or communicated with Zafar between Jan. 2 and Jan. 5, 2026, as well as residents who may have noticed unusual activity in the Dalgleish Drive or West End area. Investigators are also asking members of Zafar’s social or professional circles who have not yet spoken with police to come forward.
