Kamloops RCMP are actively investigating a suspected arson after two vehicles were engulfed in flames on West Victoria St.
Police say officers responded around 7 p.m. on Jan. 7 to the 200-block of Victoria Street West after receiving reports of a vehicle fire. Witnesses also reported explosions as the blaze spread. Kamloops Fire Rescue attended and worked alongside police at the scene.
Superintendent Jeff Pelley said the fire is considered suspicious and remains under investigation. “We responded to a report of a fire on West Victoria Street, and it is suspicious in nature…. We’re continuing to investigate that actively.”
RCMP later confirmed two vehicles were fully engulfed by the flames. Early assessments indicate the fire was deliberately set. “We continue to work with Kamloops Fire Rescue investigators to learn more about the cause of the fire,” said Cpl. Dana Napier, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. “Early assessment of the fire indicates it to be arson, and we are advancing that investigation.”
Pelley said police were still gathering information as of Thursday and that the investigation remains ongoing. “We responded late yesterday evening to two vehicles engulfed, and we continue to investigate that currently as we meet here today,” he said.
No injuries were reported.
Anyone with information related to the fire is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2026-721.
