A fire that broke out in downtown Kamloops earlier this month has now been deemed suspicious and is being investigated as an arson, according to the Kamloops RCMP.
Police say frontline officers responded on January 14 to assist Kamloops Fire Rescue with a fire in the 400-block of Victoria Street. Investigators have since determined the blaze does not appear to have been accidentally set.
The Kamloops RCMP Detachment General Investigation Support Team is leading the investigation alongside investigators from Kamloops Fire Rescue.
“Investigators are looking specifically for video of the area between 10:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on January 14, 2026, both in the front and back of the building, additionally if anyone has footage of the fire itself,” said Corporal Dana Napier, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or who has video footage from the area around the time of the fire to come forward. This includes security camera footage, dashcam video, or cellphone recordings taken before or during the incident.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). When calling, reference file number 2026-1404.
