Kamloops RCMP say an arrest has led to an investigation into the alleged impersonation of a police officer.
Police say members of the detachment’s Crime Reduction Unit conducted a traffic stop around 11 p.m. on January 29 and discovered the driver was prohibited from driving. During the investigation, officers allegedly found body armour bearing “Police” and “RCMP” markings that were not issued by the force.
RCMP say the white GMC truck involved was also equipped with red and blue emergency lights and a siren.
“Impersonating police is a criminal offence and poses a significant risk to both public and police safety,” said Sgt. Jason Pole, who oversees the Crime Reduction Unit. He added the investigation reflects RCMP efforts to proactively reduce crime in the community.

Weapons, body armour, and the vehicle were seized, and a man in his 40s was released pending the recommendation of charges.
Police are reminding the public that officers will provide proper identification if there are concerns about legitimacy.
Anyone who may have encountered a man driving a white GMC truck while wearing partial police attire is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, quoting file number 2026-3010.
