The Kamloops Blazers are celebrating another standout performance in net as 18-year-old goaltender Logan Edmonstone has been named Mary Brown’s Chicken WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 8.
Edmonstone, a Saskatoon native, was stellar on the road, posting a 2-1-0-0 record with a 1.32 goals-against average and an impressive .957 save percentage. The week included a dominant shutout in a 5-0 win over the Vancouver Giants, marking the fourth clean sheet of his season and the second time he has earned weekly WHL honours this year.
The week kicked off on Tuesday, February 3, with the Blazers facing the Victoria Royals. Despite allowing an early goal, Kamloops exploded offensively, scoring 11 unanswered goals. Edmonstone was solid between the pipes, stopping 31 of 32 shots and keeping Victoria off the scoresheet on two powerplays. The following night, the Royals got a measure of revenge in a 4-1 victory, but Edmonstone remained resilient, turning aside all 31 shots for a .912 save percentage.
He capped the week with a masterful performance on Saturday, February 7, against the Vancouver Giants. Edmonstone made 26 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season, including several key stops on Giants’ forward Luca Pura in the high-danger areas near the crease.
Edmonstone is in the midst of a career season, with a 17-10-4-3 record, a 3.22 goals-against average, and a .902 save percentage. The 5-foot-11, 172-pound netminder has been with the Blazers for parts of three seasons after being selected 173rd overall in the eighth round of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft. Over his WHL career, Edmonstone has surpassed 2,000 saves, boasting a 24-31-6-4 record, a 3.58 GAA, a .897 save percentage, and four career shutouts.
Kamloops has been in strong form recently, going 6-3-1 in its last 10 games. The Blazers currently sit third in the tightly packed B.C. Division and fourth in the Western Conference, keeping their playoff hopes alive as the regular season enters its final stretch.
The Blazers are back in action on Friday, February 13, when they visit the Prince George Cougars for a 7:00 p.m. PST puck drop.
