Kamloops RCMP are seeking public assistance to identify a vehicle involved in a violent hit-and-run that left a pedestrian with a serious leg injury in a Sahali parking lot last Friday evening.
Police say two pedestrians were walking in the 1200-block of Summit Drive around 6:30 p.m. on February 6 when a light-colored SUV drove unusually close to them. After the pair shouted at the driver, the vehicle circled the lot again and ultimately struck one of the pedestrians, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Victim Carston Turner shared a harrowing account of the incident with Radio NL. He and his partner had been shopping at the BCLC Liquor Store and Save-On Foods in the plaza. As they returned to their vehicle, Turner said a vehicle initially stopped for them, but another light-colored SUV “ripped by, narrowly missing us.” On a subsequent pass, “his mirror clipped my arm as I put my hands up in defense,” Turner said.
The next pass escalated to a violent collision. Turner described the SUV running over his left leg, dislocating his foot, and causing a compound fracture that left his tibia protruding through the skin. “I was dragged by the vehicle for about five to six feet,” he said, suffering road rash along his right side before being ejected from the vehicle.
Turner said the driver then stopped briefly, yelling at him, before moving forward another hundred meters and stopping again near the RBC, where bystanders rushed to help. Witnesses later reported the SUV fleeing the area, nearly colliding with another vehicle on the way out.
“There was nothing that could have led up to it… it seemed absolutely out of nowhere,” Turner said. “My biggest concern is making sure this person is apprehended so no one else has to go through this.” Turner, who works in public safety and is pursuing a degree in the field, said he is grateful to the witnesses who came to his aid.
RCMP are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or may have video footage from the area to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), citing file 2026-3870.
