
JP Hurlbert has been nominated for a second major year-end WHL Award.
He’s one of six nominees for the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy for WHL Player of the Year. Hurlbert put up 97 points this past season including 42 goals. He led the WHL in scoring for most of the year before finishing 4th.
The 6-foot, 182-pound right winger served as an alternate captain for the Blazers in his first WHL season. Eligible for the 2026 NHL Draft, Hurlbert is ranked 10th among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s midterm rankings. The first-year WHL forward was named to Team CHL for the CHL USA Prospects Challenge in November, before representing Team West in the 2026 WHL Prospects Game.
Hurlbert is also a nominee for the WHL Rookie of the Year award. He was named a Western Conference 1st Team All-Star last week.
He’s up against five other players from the WHL including Cameron Schmidt (Seattle Thunderbirds), Tij Iginla (Kelowna) and three players from the Medicine Hat Tigers. The twin duo of Markus and Liam Ruck who finished 1-2 in WHL scoring. Tigers defenseman Bryce Pickford is the final nominee. Pickford registered 45 goals, 83 points, and a plus-55 rating in 55 games.
The award winner will be announced Wednesday, May 6th.
