Kamloops RCMP were busy Tuesday morning responding to two separate incidents that disrupted parts of the city and drew emergency crews to the scene.
Police were first called to a North Shore neighbourhood shortly before 6 a.m. following reports of a man with a firearm. Frontline officers, along with Police Dog Services and the Emergency Response Team, attended a residence near Tranquille Road and 13th Street.
In an update later in the morning, RCMP confirmed one man had been taken into custody.
“Police have apprehended one man and are continuing to investigate the firearm allegations,” said Corporal Dana Napier, spokesperson for the Kamloops RCMP. “We are asking the public to please avoid the area at this time to allow investigators space to work.”
BC Emergency Health Services was also staged nearby as a precaution while the situation unfolded. Police thanked the public for their cooperation.
Just a couple of hours later, officers responded to a separate incident that briefly disrupted the morning commute on Victoria Street West.
Shortly before 8 a.m., police were called to the 400-block after reports of a distraught woman walking in traffic and attempting to stop passing vehicles.
A driver who stopped to help contacted police and remained on scene to gather information.
“Once the driver was pulled over, she was able to get more information from the woman who appeared to require police assistance,” Napier said.
Officers later determined the woman was believed to be a victim of an assault.
Police are continuing to investigate that incident and are asking anyone with information to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2026-11012.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
