Kamloops Minor Baseball is undergoing another growth spurt a year after posting record breaking numbers.
“We’re up over 70 athletes from last year,” states Kamloops Minor Baseball Association President Earl Corsi.
The Blue Jays run to the World Series last fall has certainly piqued interest in the sport much like it did 10 years ago when they among the best teams in MLB.
“We look at the age for a Blue Jays affect and that would be our young age divisions 8U, 9U, 11U and those are our larger divisions. I think it’s fair to say those age groups are catching on to the Blue Jays success,” Corsi continued.
Corsi says they’ve reached 900 players for Kamloops Minor Baseball this spring.
“It has exceeded our expectations. It’s been pretty substantial and we’re pretty proud of it.”
Corsi says with the increased numbers brings a new set of challenges.
“Volunteerism. We are heavily reliant on coaches, managers and that’s a huge
part of it. The other challenge is fields. We are privileged to play in Tournament Capital of Canada and have great facilities. As we keep getting busier and busier we are maximizing the use of those fields.”
KMBA will host their annual opening ceremony at McArthur Island May 7th as they introduce every team for the new season.
Some big events this summer ahead include hosting the AA 13U Provincials in late July.
