Two former members of the Kamloops Blazers are heading to the international stage after being named to Team Canada’s roster for the 2026 IIHF World Hockey Championship.
Forward Fraser Minten of the Boston Bruins and forward Emmitt Finnie of the Detroit Red Wings will represent Canada at the tournament, which begins May 15 in Switzerland.
Minten is coming off a strong NHL campaign with Boston, recording 17 goals and 18 assists for 35 points in 82 games this season. It was his first full season in the National Hockey League after playing four games in 2023-24 with the Toronto Maple leafs and 21 games in the 2024-25 season. That year he was packaged with a 1st round draft pick and dealt at the trade deadline from Toronto to Boston in exchange for defenceman Brandon Carlo.
Finnie also enjoyed a productive rookie year in Detroit, posting 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points across 82 games.
The pair are among several high-profile names selected to the Canadian roster, including Macklin Celebrini, Matthew Barzal, John Tavares and Evan Bouchard.
Canada enters the tournament looking to reclaim gold after last winning the championship in 2023. The United States are the defending champions, while host nation Switzerland has earned silver medals in each of the past two tournaments.
Team Canada opens the event against Sweden on Friday, May 15.
