Fire crews on scene at Westmount Elementary fire in Westsyde, with black smoke seen pouring out of school through exhaust port/via Tex Kali on Facebook
Kamloops RCMP are asking for the public’s help as they continue to investigate a fire at Westmount Elementary School that police now say was intentionally set.
Emergency crews were called to the school at 745 Walkem Road at about 12:54 a.m. on Oct. 26, 2025, after reports of a fire at the property.
Kamloops Fire Rescue attended the scene and extinguished the flames, while RCMP initially deemed the fire suspicious. The investigation has since been led by the Kamloops RCMP General Investigation Support Team.
In a May 20 news release, police confirmed the fire has officially been determined to be an act of arson.
“I can now confirm that investigators have established that this fire is the result of arson,” Staff Sgt. Kris Clark said. “The fire appears to have been intentionally set, and we are looking to speak with anyone who might have any information.”
Investigators are asking anyone who has not yet spoken with police to come forward. RCMP are also seeking CCTV or dash camera footage from the area around the time of the fire, particularly in the hours before and after the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2025-35751.
