A group of local women will soon be off to Montreal for the National Women’s Ball Hockey Championships set for July 14-19.
After winning “B” Provincials in Kamloops last summer, the group mostly made up of the Kamloops Vibe ice hockey team will test the rest next month.
“I think it was pretty easy to get 20 girls to sign up for Montreal with no husbands or no kids (laughs), team captain Rochelle Haywood-Farmer told NL Sports.
“We knew we would get a berth in Nationals after winning Provincials. The team bonded so well in Provincials and we’re excited to see how we do.”
The Vibe will play in a “C” Division as part of their first foray into a National tournament.
“We’re a pretty competitive group, so as much as we say we’re just going to have fun and have no expectations, I’m sure when we hit the floor we will all try are best to win,” Haywood-Farmer continued.
The group is doing some fundraising initiatives with Twisted Med Grill June 11, and a bottle drive through General Grants under “Kamloops Cougars” for those looking to donate to the cause. They are also seeking sponsorship in the community.
“For many this keeps those competitive juices going. We want to represent Kamloops and bring something back from the trip we can show our families.”
