More than $7,000 in cash, several types of suspected illicit drugs and a prohibited handgun were seized after Merritt RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence last week.
According to police, officers, assisted by the Southeast District Emergency Response Team, carried out a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a home in the 2800-block of Granite Avenue on June 3.
Three people were arrested at the scene. However, all three were later released as the investigation continues.
During the search, officers seized more than $7,000 in cash along with quantities of suspected fentanyl, cocaine, MDMA, methamphetamine, illicit cannabis and psilocybin. Police also recovered contraband cigarettes and a prohibited, unregistered handgun.
The Merritt RCMP says charges will be recommended to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada once the investigation is complete.
“Our officers remain committed to addressing the impacts of illicit drugs in our community,” said Staff Sgt. Joshua Roda, detachment commander for the Merritt RCMP. “Enforcement actions like this are part of our continued efforts to disrupt drug trafficking and enhance public safety in Merritt.”
Police are encouraging residents to remain vigilant and report suspected drug trafficking activity. Anyone who notices unusual activity, including significant foot traffic at a residence, is asked to contact Merritt RCMP or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
