Not quite on the same level as the Stanley Cup making its return to the city next month, but a Kamloops team has earned another Provincial Ball Hockey title for the City.
The Rivershore Kings were able to secure the Ball Hockey “B” Provincials in Nanaimo this past weekend, thanks in part to a couple of former Kamloops Blazers on the roster.
Dylan Sydor scored with 0:20 seconds left to secure a 6-5 victory over the BC Blackhawks based out of Vancouver on
Ryan Hanes scored a pair of goals enroute to securing the Championship title, which should help cement the Rivershore Kings as one of the perennial power houses in provincial-level ball hockey, and help add to the strength of Kamloops overall reputation in the sport as well.
“We didn’t come all the way to Nanaimo to lose,” said Hanes matter-of-factly to Radio NL sports after their weekend triumph.
“A lot of these guys have been together for awhile,” said Hanes, “It’s nice to win and share it with everyone.”
Other goal scorers in the final included Cole Senum, Evan Clark and Harrison Ewert.
Connor Milburn had a three point final, adding three assists in the victory.
The Kings have been a perennial powerhouse on the Provincial scene for the past few years.
This weekend, they wrapped up the title by going 4-0-1 in competition, with the tie their only blemish on the record.
Kamloops also had a team competing in “D” Provincials.
The Flyers would not be as fortunate, going down in the bronze medal game.
This coming weekend will see the “A” and “C” Provincials held in Surrey.
