As expected, in-and-out privileges at all ticketed events at Sandman Centre – including Kamloops Blazers games – will no longer be in place, starting tonight, March 31.
You’ll have to show two pieces of ID to buy alcohol – one with a picture – with the City of Kamloops also saying there will be bag checks to prevent people from bringing outside food and drinks into the arena.
“Our goal is to provide an enjoyable experience for all spectators and staff at Sandman Centre,” Sean Smith, the City’s Business Operations and Events Supervisor said, in a news release.
“We want residents to be prepared when they arrive at Sandman Centre for their next game or event. If you plan on purchasing alcohol, please be sure you have the proper ID with you before you enter the building, as you will not be permitted to leave and return.”
Speaking on the NL Noon Report, Blazers Assistant General Manager, Tim O’Donovan, noted the changes are meant to keep people safe.
“In-and-out privileges have sort of gone by the wayside so we just thought that we’d get on board with that as well and get to the norm of what most buildings have,” he said.
“Almost any event you go to all over North America, that is a fairly standard thing and a lot of it has to do with safety and making sure that everyone is taken care of.”
Smith says special accommodations may be made in the case of an emergency, noting these new policies will help reduce ticket fraud. He notes it will also help Sandman Centre staff manage alcohol consumption which in turn will protect the arena’s liquor licence.
“We know that these changes will be impactful to some residents, but overall, we hope that the community will be respectful of these changes and of staff,” Smith added.
In-and-out privileges were already not allowed during concerts at Sandman Centre.
