A 26-year-old man from Kamloops is facing charges of arson after being arrested over the weekend.
Kamloops RCMP responded to the 1000-block of Lethbridge Avenue at roughly 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, after two fires had been reported in an alleyway between Lethbridge Avenue and Sherbrook and between 10th and 11th streets.
The fires were quickly contained by residents in the area who used garden hoses to spray them down.
However, police say damage was still done to a fence and a garbage container, prompting an investigation by the RCMP.
Mounties say Owen Lee Coty, has been charged with two counts of arson.
“Officers attended and as part of the investigation, a suspect was identified and arrested nearby on Selkirk Avenue,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. “He was held in custody for a bail hearing Monday evening and remanded until his next court appearance, scheduled for today.”
The RCMP are asking anyone who has information about the incident or who witnessed anything to come forward.
