The BC RCMP have renewed a call for information into the suspicious deaths of 17 feral horses on Crown land near Walhachin, about 65 km west of Kamloops.
In a news release Monday, police say investigators have received considerable information since the gruesome March 10 discovery, though they’re appealing for information once again.
“We deeply appreciate these efforts, however, we’re appealing once more to anyone who may have information that could prove critical in advancing the investigation,” BC RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy, said.
“We need your help to bring charges against those responsible and ensure they are successfully prosecuted.”
Mounties told RadioNL in March that the horses may have been there for as many as two weeks before police were alerted. They were were found in two different groups – one with six, and the other with 11.
“And it wasn’t like they were bunched up in a group, they were spread out a considerable distance,” RCMP Cpl. Cory Lepine, the RCMP’s Livestock Investigator said at the time. “I don’t know if they were followed and shot one by one, but they definitely weren’t in a group setting for sure.”
Mounties say the Skeetchestn Band in particular still feels despair following the deaths of these horses which are of cultural significance to the band, and are known to frequent the area.
“The Skeetchestn Band has been a vital partner in our efforts, working closely with us to progress the investigation,” Lepine added. “Their cooperation and support have been invaluable.”
“We reiterate the importance of the community’s contribution to this ongoing investigation.”
Those with information are being told to contact Cpl. Cory Lepine at (250) 299-7462 or via email.
