
Editor’s note: RCMP say a 33-year-old Vernon man was killed in the crash on Highway 97 Monday morning. The story has been updated here.
UPDATE 4:15 p.m. – Drive BC says Highway 97 is open in both directions after a serious two-vehicle crash on Highway 97, just south of Barnhartvale Road.
BC EHS told Radio NL the crash, believed to be between a semi and a car, sent two people to hospital with minor injuries. Crews were called just before 10 a.m. Monday, with the highway closed for several hours as crews investigated.
Drive BC is warning drivers to be cautious as there is heavy sand on Highway 97.
There is no word on what caused this crash.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP tell Radio NL their investigation is still continuing.
Drivers heading to or from Kelowna were told to use use a detour on the Trans-Canada Highway and either Highway 97B in Salmon Arm or Highway 97A in Sicamous while Highway 97 was closed.
