Kamloopsian Rhonda Malesku is the big winner of this week’s $35 million Lotto Max Jackpot.
The born and raised Kamloopsian says she was at home when she realized she was a big winner on Tuesday.
“Lots of screaming, a few bad words, more screaming, and just shaking. Yeah. Yeah. It was crazy,” she said. “Its like how can you pick such crazy, random numbers and then at the luck of the draw they come up.”
Malesku says bought her winning ticket with the numbers 15, 16, 17, 18, 43, 44, and 48 at the Walmart in Kamloops while shopping for beach towels. Another $35-million winning ticket was sold somewhere in Edmonton.
“The initial thoughts was like… God. No way! No way! I tried staying still to check them again and it was true, and I just wigged out,” she added. “Yeah. I did. Truly, just came unglued. Good thing I didn’t have a stroke.”
Malesku plans to use her winnings to build three new homes – one each for her son and daughter and one for her and her husband, Sam.
“It is going to change my life because its going to change their lives and that is what makes me the most excited,” she said.
The Malesku’s also plan to buy a travel trailer and a truck with Rhonda saying she is also looking forward to travelling to the East Coast with her loved ones.
Malesku joins Gary Hill who won the last $35-million jackpot in 2021. Hill, a semi-retired truck driver at the time, split his winnings with a 29-year-old Toronto man, Ginno Torres.
