The BC Wildfire Service says a four-hectare wildfire along Highway 97C just east of Merritt is now under control.
The Hamilton Hill wildfire was discovered around 7 p.m. Monday evening, with smoke and flames visible in Merritt and along Highway 5A, south of Kamloops.
In an update just after 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Wildfire Service said the suspected human caused blaze was not expected to grow further because of suppression efforts.
Crews from Merritt Fire Rescue also responded to the suspected human-caused blaze, which the BC Wildfire Service says it not threatening the highway or the City of Merritt.
The BC Wildfire Service said it was using a “full response” towards this fire because of the threat to public safety as well as property and things like infrastructure or timber.
“During a full response, a wildfire is suppressed and controlled until it is deemed out,” it added.
