Bush Creek East fire burning in the Shuswap/via BC Wildfire Service
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District and the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District have downgraded some evacuation orders put in place due to the Bush Creek East Fire.
The TNRD has taken 78 properties in the Turtle Valley area off evacuation order, leaving 57 others still on order. Properties still on include are listed below:
- 600 to 863 Bailey Rd;
- 8449 to 8589 Black Mountain Rd
- 565 to 652 English Rd
- 8420 to 8453 Heitman Rd
- 8097 Skimikin Rd
- 268 to 808 Squilax-Turtle Valley Rd;
- And any other properties as outlined in the attached map.
It means there are now 207 TNRD properties in the Turtle Valley area that are on evacuation alert as outlined here.
This Evacuation Alert is in place to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary,” the TNRD said. “Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an Evacuation Order; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.”
Meanwhile, the CSRD has taken all properties in the Skimikin area off evacuation order, leaving them on alert for now. It comes one day after the Sorrento and Little River areas were taken off evacuation order.
An Evacuation Order may need to be reissued; however, if that is deemed necessary, the Evacuation Order process will re-commence,” the CSRD said.
The community of Anglemont in the North Shuswap was also put on evacuation alert Saturday.
“The alert is being recommended by the BC Wildfire Service as a precautionary measure based on the forecasted weather,” the Shuswap Emergency Program said, in a statement.
“A wildfire burning near Celista continues to pose a potential risk to additional properties in Electoral Area F of the CSRD,” the CSRD added, noting the alert was issued due to the potential danger to life, health or property, and the limited transportation options in the area.
Residents in Anglemont and St. Ives were encouraged to voluntarily leave their homes over the past week, though the CSRD said it was also supporting those who wanted to stay.
All other evacuation orders and alerts remain unchained at this time.
The Bush Creek East Fire is now an estimated 434 square kilometres in size, due to better mapping work.
