Chase RCMP say there appears to be “a clear case of mass amnesia” after some stolen firefighting equipment was seized from a rural property in the Celista area.
In a news release, Sgt. Barry Kennedy says the investigation led police to a property in the 5800 block of Squilax-Anglemont Road on Aug. 24 “and the association of this property to a rash of stolen firefighting equipment.”
“Police spoke with the tenants on the property who allowed police access the property,” Kennedy said.
“Police located a large water bladder and a water pump, both marked with BC Wildfire identifiers. These items were seized and returned to BC Wildfire.”
Kennedy says several people who were staying on the property “and bringing various items” with them all left once police arrived.
“Linking who had brought which items to the property, was not possible as all involved pointed the finger at the others and there is a clear case of mass amnesia associated to the property,” Kennedy said.
Asked if the investigation was closed, owing to the difficulty in pinpointing suspects, Kennedy said yes.
“No one could say who brought the equipment to the property and it was just sitting there with no one around it,” he said, in an email to Radio NL.
