Just like the Western Hockey League, the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) will require all players to wear neck guards while on the ice for games and practices, effective immediately.
The Junior “A” hockey league – which features the Kamloops Storm and the Chase Heat – made the announcement today, Nov. 2.
The new policy – which comes days after the tragic death of 29-year-old Adam Johnson during a game in the British Elite Hockey League – will impact about 500 players in the KIJHL.
“Consideration will be given to teams and athletes in situations where the demand for neck protectors cannot be immediately met,” a statement from the league said.
“The KIJHL will work with its member clubs to assist in instances where local availability is exhausted.”
