Kamloops City Council says it will release a “complete or redacted copy” of an investigation report that came about after a recent Code of Conduct investigation.
In a statement Thursday, City Councillors said the report, or a summary of it, will be released within 30 days of a decision made in a closed meeting.
“Because the report contains personal information within the meaning the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Council is prohibited from considering this matter in an open meeting,” the statement said.
“However, within 30 days of its decision, Council will make available to the public a complete or redacted copy of the investigation report, or a summary of it, together with a description of the censures, sanctions, corrective actions, and other measures, if any, imposed by Council on the respondent.”
“Until that time, Council will not be commenting further on the matter,” the statement added.
It’s not clear what the report is about, but it would seem that those disciplinary measures could target Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson, though he is not named in Thursday’s council statement.
Earlier this year, Radio NL and Kamloops This Week reported that Hamer-Jackson had been the subject of a third-party investigation into alleged workplace bullying and harassment.
KTW published details about the workplace investigation that found the mayor violated council’s code of conduct by being disrespectful or demeaning to three city staffers, including Chief Administrative Officer David Trawin.
Last month, Hamer-Jackson told councillors he had launched an investigation of his own, hoping to determine who has been leaking information from closed meetings to various local media outlets.
Hamer-Jackson has on numerous occasions called on city councillors to publicly release a number of confidential documents, most notably the full Integrity Group report.
