UPDATE 8 p.m. – Kamloops RCMP say several people were arrested as part of an ongoing investigation that saw a portion of 13th Street on the North Shore closed for several hours Thursday.
It is not clear how many people were arrested but RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says there is still a small police presence in the area as officers work to execute a search warrant.
Earlier in the day, Evelyn said the incident came after reports of an assault – that happened around noon – in the area of Halston and Sudbury Avenues, not far from Chances Casino.
People were asked people to stay away from the area as the Southeast District Emergency Response Team was called in to assist local Mounties, who were led to a house on 13th Street that is known to them.
Evelyn says police called for the ERT to respond as they believed there were weapons inside the house.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-42383.
