Ashton Ferster scored twice and added an assist as the Kamloops Blazers beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-3 to close out their East Division road trip with a win.
Kai Matthew, Jordan Keller, and Shea Van Olm had the other goals as the Blazers snapped a six game losing streak at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
Matthew opened the scoring for the Blazers with his second in the WHL but an Atley Calvert marker sent the two teams into the locker room tied at 1-1.
Ferster and Keller gave the Blazers a 3-1 lead after two periods, the first time the Blazers lead going into an intermission on their five-game road trip.
Calvert and Ferster then traded power play goals in the third, before Pavel McKenzie brought the Warriors back to within one when he scored with about seven minutes left to play.
Van Olm closed out the win for the Blazers with an empty netter in the dying seconds as Kamloops picked up just their eighth win of the season, giving them an 8-20-3-2 record.
The win also moves Don Hay up the WHL’s all-time coaching list with 751. The Kamloops native is coaching in the absence of Shaun Clouston, who was named an assistant coach for Team’s Canada World Junior team in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Dylan Ernst made 39 saves on 42 shots to take the win Friday. Dimitri Fortin stopped 39 of 43 shots in a losing effort for the Warriors.
Nathan Behm and Harrison Brunicke had a pair of assists each, while Van Olm had a pair of assists to go with his goal.
The Blazers will regroup after the WHL holiday break, with their next game scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 27, against the Kelowna Rockets at Sandman Centre.
